Recreation

Public lands and rivers form the bedrock of the state’s outdoor economy, with outdoor recreation generating $92 billion in consumer spending and 691,000 direct jobs each year in California.

Improving trails and recreation areas would boost tourism spending and provide new ways for residents and visitors to experience Northwest California.

Among other provisions this proposal would:

  • Call for development of a regional trail development plan on how to improve trails in the region for hikers, equestrians, and mountain bikers.
  • Create other recreation opportunities through study of the possibility of establishing the Bigfoot National Recreation Trail.
  • Authorize construction of specified mountain biking routes in Del Norte County,
  • Designate the Elk Camp Ridge Recreation Trail
  • Designate the Horse Mountain Special Management Area, which would enhance the recreational and scenic values of the recreation area while conserving the plants, wildlife, and other natural resource values of the area.
  • Authorize the construction of an interagency visitor’s center in Weaverville in Trinity County.
