Conservation

Designating our most pristine public lands as Wilderness and our clear rivers and creeks as Wild & Scenic would ensure that these places remain in their natural state for future generations. This legislation would protect streams and watersheds for native fish populations, recreational activities, and community drinking water, while also safeguarding habitat for endangered salmon and steelhead populations.

Specifically, the legislation would:

  • Protect 262,000 acres of federal public lands as Wilderness by expanding nine existing wilderness areas and establishing ten new ones.
  • Designate 480 miles of stream as Wild & Scenic Rivers.
